Hi, I’m Ric Mathews

Clinical Supervisor

I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over ten years of experience in health and wellness. I was born and raised in New York City, and I bring a multicultural, multiethnic, and multilingual perspective to my work that shapes everything about how I show up in the room.

I am part of the core faculty in the Sex Therapy Program at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP), where I also completed post-graduate clinical certificates in sex therapy and gender and sexuality studies. I hold additional certificates in trauma-informed clinical care from NYU and EMDR training through Helping Hands. I also hold multiple certifications in yoga, meditation, and Thai Yoga massage. In addition to my clinical practice, I am a published writer and am frequently quoted as a mental health expert in major news outlets.

My therapeutic style is integrative, holistic, and eclectic, drawing from psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, narrative, yoga, and mindfulness-based approaches. My practice is culturally sensitive, sex-positive, anti-oppression, anti-racist, anti-patriarchy, anti-heteronormative, and feminist. Those are not just words I put on a page. They are the foundation of how I work with every client.

I work with a wide range of clients and concerns, and I bring the full breadth of my clinical and somatic training to each session. If you are looking for a therapist who will meet you where you are, hold complexity without judgment, and bring genuine depth to the work, I would love to connect.
