SERVICES - LGTBQIA+ THERAPY
LGBTQIA+ Therapy in New York City
You shouldn't have to wonder if your therapist will actually accept you for who you are. At Grounded, you won't have to. Every therapist here has specific training in LGBTQIA+ affirming care and genuine working knowledge of what queer and trans life actually looks like.
ABOUT LGBTQIA+ THERAPY
A space where all of you is welcome.
In-person in Manhattan or virtually across NY, NJ & TX.
Our LGBTQIA+ affirming therapists have genuine working knowledge of queer and trans life. The nuances of coming out at any age, navigating gender identity, managing minority stress, building chosen family, being queer and religious, being trans and a parent.
We're sex-positive, kink-aware, and experienced in the ways LGBTQIA+ identity intersects with race, faith, culture, and disability. LGBTQIA+ affirming care is built into how every Grounded therapist works, not a specialty someone tacked on to their profile.
All Grounded therapists are licensed in New York and hold credentials including LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, MHC-LP, and LMFT. Many are in-network with Aetna and UMR Top Tier insurance.
WHAT WE WORK WITH
The full range of LGBTQIA+ experience.
We work with queer and trans individuals, couples, and families across a wide range of concerns, not just identity-specific ones.
Coming out at any age, in any context
Gender identity and gender dysphoria
Gender transition support and surgery letters
Minority stress and the weight of discrimination
Internalized homophobia and transphobia
Relationship and family acceptance challenges
Sexual trauma and body safety

Intimacy, desire, and sexual identity exploration
How we work. You deserve a therapist who gets it.
-
Narrative Therapy
Rewriting the stories you've been handed about who you are, separating your identity from the narratives imposed by family, culture, or religion. Reclaiming authorship of your own life.
-
Trauma-Informed & Somatic Approaches
For the ways minority stress, discrimination, and gender dysphoria live in the body and for healing sexual trauma, body shame, and the physical experience of being unseen or unsafe.
-
Trauma-Informed CBT
Addressing the thoughts, beliefs, and early experiences that shape anxiety, depression, and PTSD rooted in LGBTQIA+ experience and in a framework that understands where those patterns come from..
-
DBT & Psychodynamic Therapy
For emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and exploring the deeper roots of patterns in relationships and identity. Particularly helpful for managing the ongoing impact of minority stress.
You shouldn't have to compromise on this.
LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy tends to be the right fit if:
